Luxembourg, LU (28th September, 2021)  –  At FachPack 2021, Jindal Films (Hall 7 Stand 307) will showcase various print, barrier and sealing technologies designed to facilitate the switch from difficult-to-recycle laminates containing, for example, PET, alu foil, or paper,  to mono-material mechanically recyclable PP-, PE- or PO- (polyolefin) based laminates for flexible packaging.

PRINT WEBS: PAPER OR PET REPLACEMENT WITH OPP

Paper and PET films are increasingly being removed from flexible packaging when they are used in laminations with polyolefin barrier and sealant films.  Jindal Films is expanding its outer web non-heat sealable OPP films portfolio, both with matt finish (BICOR™ CSRM) for paper-look aesthetics or glossy finish (BICOR™ NND/NNH) for PET replacement.

To address the needs of some of the most demanding packaging applications, improved heat resistant OPP films are being developed to replace PET films. New developmental Bicor™ MR100 is recommended for the outer web in retort sterilized applications to help minimize the shrinkage and visual distortion during the heat sealing and steam autoclave operations when designing PP-based retort laminates. In the coming months, Jindal Films will introduce very thin Bicor™ MB100 OPP films for broad PET replacement applications, helping brand-owners continue their packaging light-weighting journey.

BARRIER WEBS: ALU FOIL AND COATED PET REPLACEMENTS WITH OPP

Jindal Films has expanded its broad range of barrier film solutions designed to replace traditional aluminum foil or PET-based barrier webs, using modified coextrusion, vacuum chamber and water-based coating technologies on thin OPP films. Metallyte™ MM883, AlOx-Lyte™ AO893 and AO894, and Bicor™ MB890 are being increasingly used across Europe to help brand-owners progressively shift from difficult-to-recycle barrier laminates (e.g. PET/ALU/PE, Paper/ALU/PE, PET/PET-SiOX/PE) to PP-based barrier laminates that can be used in existing or developing PP and mixed-PO recycling streams.

HEAT SEAL WEBS: PE FILM REPLACEMENTS WITH OPP

A breakthrough ULTRA SEAL OPP film technology has taken the market by storm. The unique seal performance capabilities are designed to replace blown polyethylene (PE) or cast polypropylene (PP) films used in some flexible packaging laminates for smaller formats. BICOR™ MB344US films, the first product range to benefit from this new ULTRA SEAL technology, consist of high clarity, oriented polypropylene (OPP) films featuring high seal strength (>18N/15mm), low seal initiation temperature (SIT < 95ºC) and exceptional hot tack performance. The technology provides robust seal performance in numerous packaging formats, especially pouch and stand-up pouch applications.

PP MONO-MATERIAL BARRIER SOLUTIONS – LIVE DEMO

During Fachpack 2021, a PP-based solution using Jindal Films’ Bicor, Metallyte™ and Ultra Seal film technologies will run on a high-speed stand-up pouch machine (SN Maschinenbau, Hall 1 stand 329) consisting of a 3-ply high barrier OPP laminate (produced by Hatzopoulos) aimed at replacing non-recyclable PET/ALU/PE or Paper/ALU/PE laminates.
