JINDAL FILMS OFFERS ISCC PLUS CERTIFIED FILMS FOR A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION

  • ISCC PLUS AUDITED AND CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE
  • BIO-BASED FILMS* WITHOUT COMPROMISING PERFORMANCE
  • A DROP-IN SOLUTION FOR FAST IMPLEMENTATION

LUXEMBOURG (23rd September, 2019) — Jindal Films, a global technology leader in flexible food
packaging, pressure sensitive and wrap around labeling applications, is reinforcing its commitment
to help create a sustainable future with the introduction of ISCC PLUS certified films.

“In the current context of moving to a more sustainable world, Jindal Films is committed to
preserve our planet’s natural resources and in addition to other on-going initiatives, is launching
non-fossil based polypropylene oriented films, under the certification scheme of ISCC PLUS
(International Sustainability and Carbon Certification),” said Christophe Heintz, Market
Development Manager, Jindal Films.

ISCC PLUS is an independent internationally recognized sustainability certification, governed by an
association with 120+ members, and valued by key brand owners. ISCC PLUS certification
guarantees full traceability and ensures that the whole supply chain is free from deforestation
whilst respecting the environment and social rights. ISCC certification is possible according to the
mass balance approach, facilitating the production of certified polypropylene, the main raw
material used by Jindal Films.

Jindal Films has identified different sources of ISCC PLUS certified polypropylene, made of various
vegetal renewable sources like sunflower, soybean, rapeseed, tall oils and other vegetal oils via a
mass balance approach. These are ethically sourced and used to produce naphtha, which is itself
converted into propylene, before being polymerized into polypropylene and introduced into Jindal
Films’ production process. As a result, without any compromise in the final film properties or its
food contact approvals, Jindal Films is proud to announce a film range made out of these ISCC PLUS
certified sustainable sources, through the mass balance concept used along the supply chain
according to ISCC requirements.

“As a registered system user, Jindal Films ensures its complete commitment to the ISCC PLUS
Standard, through the certification of its Kerkrade plant (NL),” said Aloys Slenders, Plant Director,
“With our certificate (number PL214-80940819), we believe this is the first oriented PP plastic film
production facility in the world to join this certification program. This program will be extended to
our other plants, as per the demand for sustainable certified films.”

Jindal Films can now offer a broad range of PSL and reel fed grades made with non- fossil,
sustainably sourced polypropylene*, certified according to ISCC PLUS requirements. This includes,
but is not limited to, our proven Label-Lyte™ film solutions, like white (cavitated and solid) and
clear PSL facestocks as well as reel fed wrap around white cavitated films. All these films will have
the same characteristics and performance properties as the current references, so they can be
quickly implemented by our customers, speeding up the possibility of them delivering to end
consumers, a fully sustainable solution for their everyday products.

“These sustainable certified films are part of a full range of sustainable solutions. Our R&D and
Marketing teams are highly focused on bringing to the market sustainable solutions for a better
future. Currently, Jindal Films’ sustainable solutions include full range of mono material recyclable
films, ultra-high yield grades and films designed for optimal label separation from containers. Jindal
Films is committed to becoming a full sustainable solution partner for every player in the industry,
as well as striving to develop the next generations of films that are required to help build an
environmentally friendly and sustainable world, together.” said Mirek Tokaj, Marketing Director.

JINDAL FILMS INTRODUCES NEW BARRIER SOLUTIONS DEDICATED TO LABEL FACESTOCK
FOR PRESSURE SENSITIVE LABEL (PSL) AT LABELEXPO 2019

Jindal Films (Hall 3 Stand 3C46), a global leader in the development and manufacture of specialty
films for the flexible packaging and labeling markets, will introduce new Label-Lyte™ LH344 at
LabelExpo 2019. A two-side coated, super white opaque polypropylene label facestock, Label-Lyte™
LH344 is designed to produce durable labels for harsh environments and demanding applications.
It combines a high yield cavitated core with a unique barrier coating and a top-coated print surface.

“Capitalizing on our knowledge and expertise in barrier and migration control in dry food market
segments, we have developed a special film dedicated to the Pressure Sensitive Label (PSL)
industry using hot melt adhesives for demanding applications,” said Denis Rousseau.

The new engineered barrier coating helps to ensure optimal curling and swelling resistance to hot
melt adhesives, creating a protective barrier to the migration of hot melt adhesives components.

The printable coating is designed for a broad range of ink systems, including UV flexo, UV
letterpress, water- and solvent-based inks for gravure and flexo. It also offers features for
decoration and marking. It is forgiving with hot and cold foil stamping used to finish and enhance
the label, as well as exhibiting excellent print quality with thermal transfer ribbons. Both barrier
and printable top coatings are halogen-free and water based.

Like other Label-Lyte™ white cavitated films, LH344 exhibits excellent opacity. Its mechanical
properties allow an excellent in-line die cutting performance and excellent stiffness for automatic
label dispensing.

LH344 film is well suited for critical substrates such as rough surfaces requiring hot melt adhesive
performance including drums, tires and textiles, and because it is compliant with EU food contact
legislation can be used for food applications.

Moreover, in response to the dry food packaging evolution with new trendy formats designed with
a PSL to facilitate the opening and closing of the flexible pack to protect and maintain food quality,
Jindal Films is developing a new grade with a control barrier to gas like oxygen and aromatic
molecules.

Come and discover LH344 and more barrier solutions at Jindal Films Label Expo booth 3C46.

JINDAL FILMS HIGHLIGHTS ONGOING FOCUS ON DELIVERING TECHNICAL INNOVATIONS
WITH LABELS DESIGNED FOR RECYCLING AT LABELEXPO 2019.

Jindal Films (Hall 3, booth C46) will introduce at LabelExpo 2019, a new Label-Lyte™ LLC platform
with a special OPP design which combines the best characteristics of polyethylene (PE) like
conformability, squeezability and flexibility with the inherent properties of OPP like stiffness, no
elongation and transparency.

“With ongoing challenges to reduce the use of plastic to the minimum and make sure that the
design of plastic packaging bottles supports the global effort and journey for a plastic circular
economy, Jindal Films is proud to build on the success of its Label-Lyte™ LLC conformable and
squeezable OPP,” said Denis Rousseau, Global Segment Manager, Labels, Jindal Films.

This new Label-Lyte™ LLC platform provides Brand Owners with opportunities to reduce their use
of plastic in existing packaging and make sure that it is recyclable where programs and facilities to
collect and recycle plastic exist.

Label-Lyte™ LLC label can reduce the use of plastic by 40 % versus typical thicker polyethylene
(PE) labels, while improving optical properties for more impactful branding and marketing.

As a polyolefin, Label-Lyte™ LLC can be recycled on polyethylene or polypropylene (PP) containers
where existing polyolefin recycling channels exist. It can also be separated by flotation when
applied on PET containers with an appropriate adhesive.

Building on the success of the LLC210 clear and LLC247 white grades, Jindal Films will showcase
some new prototypes which have a “soft touch” matt coating.

Come and discover our conformable and squeezable Label-Lyte™ LLC platform at the Jindal Films
Label Expo booth # C46.

TREOFAN AND JINDAL FILMS INTRODUCE NEW, INNOVATIVE IML FILM SOLUTION

  • ELR 60.0 – The high yield benchmark for big bucket decoration
  • EFP 60.0 – The ultra high yield IML grade with fluorescent effect
  • Breakthrough Innovation – next generation of ultra high yield IML substrates

LUXEMBOURG (23rd September, 2019) — Treofan, a leading expert for IML Films, is reinforcing its
commitment to evaluate new technologies which are required to meet the ongoing growing market
requirements of the IML segment.

“We always listen very carefully to the people concerned, respect the market needs and develop
films which perfectly meet the requirements of our customers and partners along the whole IML
process chain,” said Joachim Jung, IML Product Management and Business Development, Treofan.
“This is why Treofan has always been a highly innovative company. Remaining at the forefront of
market trends, Treofan is extending its IML product range year after year.”

“A new, downgauged version of the well established product ELR 70.0 has just been introduced to
the market. It is a product which has been specifically developed to fulfil all the requirements
linked to the IML decoration of big buckets produced for the industrial, as well as for the food
packaging market, including paint buckets and containers for food sauces,”, said Oliver Gonzalez,
International Key Account and Senior Manager IML, Treofan. “The new 60μm version offers our
customers an improved yield in combination with an excellent fit for use related to the decoration
of high gloss big buckets.”

“Additionally, our strongly dedicated Treofan R&D team has developed EFP 60.0, an innovative IML
grade which has a UV reflective, fluorescent reverse side,” said Jung. “This feature helps injection
moulders identify potential issues occurring during the In Mould Labelling process which can
reduce waste by supporting the efficiency of high-tech vision inspection systems and, therefore,
improve injection moulding efficiencies.”

“With the launch of EUP, which is based on a patent-protected breakthrough technology concept
with both sides matt, Treofan has been able to offer a solution to the market which supersedes
former materials due to its easy and steady state printing performance, even when materials are
downgauged. EUP today has become the new standard reference used by leading sheet fed print
equipment producers,” said Gonzalez.

“Currently Treofan is working with its industry partner Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG to
explore the next generation of ultra high yield IML substrates,” said Jung. “We are confident that we
will be able to offer our customers an IML substrate with even greater yield improvements
compared to the currently offered grades, while maintaining the same conversion efficiencies along
the whole IML process chain.”
